Pakistan cricket board unveils Umar Gul, Saeed Ajmal as new coaches

In the wake of World Cup disappointment, Pakistan cricket board redefines coaching staff with Umar Gul and Saeed Ajmal at the helm.

In a strategic move to revamp their coaching setup following a lackluster World Cup campaign, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has enlisted the formidable duo of Umar Gul and Saeed Ajmal as the new bowling coaches.

This dynamic decision aims to inject fresh expertise into the team, with the first litmus test being the upcoming test series against Australia slated to kick off next month.

Umar Gul Takes Charge of Fast Bowling, Ajmal to Spearhead Spin Department

In an official statement released by the PCB, it was revealed that the experienced Umar Gul, who hung up his boots in 2020 after an illustrious career comprising 237 international matches and an impressive tally of 427 wickets, will assume the role of fast bowling coach. Gul, known for his lethal pace and precision, has previously served as the bowling coach for Afghanistan in 2022, showcasing his commitment to nurturing emerging talent.

On the spin front, the PCB has entrusted the spin wizard Saeed Ajmal with the responsibility of fine-tuning the spinners. Ajmal, with 212 appearances for Pakistan and an impressive record of 447 wickets, brings a wealth of playing experience to his coaching role. Having also contributed to the Pakistan Super League as a coach, Ajmal is set to impart his spin expertise to the national squad.

Overhaul Continues with Notable Appointments

The appointment of Gul and Ajmal comes in the aftermath of the World Cup, where Pakistan finished fifth with eight points, winning four matches and losing five. This reshaping of the coaching staff follows the resignation of South African Morne Morkel as the bowling coach. The PCB’s commitment to revitalizing the team extends beyond the coaching domain, with former Pakistani fast bowler Wahab Riaz recently named as the chief selector.

Last week witnessed a series of key changes as Inzamam-ul-Haq stepped down, making way for Wahab Riaz, while Mohammad Hafeez assumed the role of team director in place of Mickey Arthur. In another twist, Babar Azam resigned as captain, paving the way for Shan Masood to step into the leadership role. For the T20 side, pace sensation Shaheen Afridi will lead the charge.

Anticipation Builds for Test Series Against Australia

With the formidable coaching duo of Umar Gul and Saeed Ajmal now at the helm, all eyes are on the upcoming test series against Australia. The PCB’s strategic moves reflect a determined effort to propel Pakistan cricket to new heights, with the seasoned guidance of Gul and Ajmal expected to play a pivotal role in shaping the team’s performance on the international stage.
