Nuno Espirito Santo appointed Nottingham Forest manager

Nottingham Forest has officially unveiled Nuno Espirito Santo as the club’s new first-team head coach.

The 49-year-old Portuguese tactician, renowned for his previous successes at Wolves, steps into the role following the departure of Steve Cooper, who was relieved of his duties after a disappointing string of results.

The announcement, made via an official club statement on Wednesday, disclosed that Nuno has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract and is set to lead his first match on Saturday against Bournemouth at The City Ground.

This development marks Nuno’s return to English football after a hiatus since his departure from Tottenham Hotspur in November.

Cooper’s exit from the managerial position came on Tuesday, triggered by a troubling series of performances that saw Forest secure only one victory in 13 Premier League games.

The 44-year-old Welshman had initially earned admiration for steering Forest to Premier League promotion in 2022, ending a 23-year hiatus from the top-flight for the historic club.

However, despite the summer influx of new signings, Cooper struggled to replicate last season’s success, leading to the decision by Forest’s Greek owner, Evangelos Marinakis, to part ways with the former Swansea boss.

Marinakis expressed gratitude for Cooper’s contribution, acknowledging his role in the club’s return to the Premier League.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s appointment brings anticipation and hope to Forest fans, given his track record of guiding Wolves to consecutive seventh-place finishes in the Premier League and a memorable Europa League quarter-final run.

With his wealth of experience, Nuno aims to rejuvenate Nottingham Forest’s fortunes and secure their Premier League status.

The upcoming clash against Bournemouth serves as the first test for the newly appointed head coach, who is eager to make a strong impact from the outset.
