President Barrow unveils “Yiriwa programme”, transforms Gambia’s future

In a remarkable move towards fostering national development, President Adama Barrow embarked on a comprehensive monitoring visit to key projects aimed at revolutionizing The Gambia’s socio-economic landscape.
The unveiling of the “Yiriwa Programme” promises a brighter future for the nation, emphasizing advancements in electricity access, healthcare, youth skill development, and infrastructure.
President Barrow’s visit included inspection of pivotal projects such as the Jamburr Plant, generating an additional 23 megawatts of solar energy. This, coupled with the construction of a 1500-bed National Emergency Treatment Centre at Farato and the USET Campus, marks a significant leap forward in enhancing the country’s capabilities.
Under the ambitious “Yiriwa Programme,” the government aims to achieve Universal Access to Electricity by 2027, establish a new port, expand existing facilities, and create dry ports to revitalize river transportation.
The MCC’s Compact grant has played a pivotal role in supporting these endeavors, recognizing The Gambia’s strides in nurturing democracy.
The program extends its reach to fundamental areas, including access to clean drinking water, governance, and the digital economy.
Notably, efforts to promote non-cash financial transactions and the digitization of public transportation fares are in motion.
President Barrow outlined the program’s commitment to boosting agricultural self-sufficiency by significantly promoting rice production and reducing import dependency. Furthermore, to fortify the tourism sector, plans for airport expansion and new hotel constructions are underway.
Addressing concerns in Brikama, President Barrow assured the community of a new hospital, emphasizing the importance of national development over individual interests.
With support from the World Bank, the government aims to construct a modern hospital, transforming the existing one near the market into a space for commerce, particularly benefiting women.
President Barrow urged collaboration between the Brikama Area Council and the Central Government, emphasizing the need for adherence to the country’s laws.
The call for cleanliness and respect for regulations echoes the broader vision of the “Yiriwa Programme.”
As the “Meet the People’s” tour continues, President Barrow’s strategic vision promises a transformative era for The Gambia, laying the foundations for sustainable growth and prosperity.
