ECOWAS President Touray welcomes EAC delegation for collaborative benchmarking mission
H.E. Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, President of the ECOWAS Commission, graciously hosted a delegation from the East African Community (EAC) today, led by Hon. Andrea Aguer Arik Malueth, the Deputy Secretary General overseeing Infrastructure, Productive, Social, and Political Sectors.
The purpose of their visit is a benchmarking mission aimed at fostering collaboration and shared learning between the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the East African Community.
The meeting, held at the ECOWAS Commission Headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria, served as a platform for President Touray to emphasize the critical importance of cooperation among Regional Economic Communities (RECs).
In his welcoming address, President Touray highlighted the value of mutual learning, stating, “It is good we learn from each other.” Expressing gratitude for the confidence bestowed upon ECOWAS, he also emphasized the opportunity for the EAC delegation to draw inspiration from the achievements and successes of ECOWAS despite the challenges faced in the region.
Andrea Aguer Arik Malueth, leading the EAC delegation, reciprocated the appreciation, expressing delight at the warm reception received from ECOWAS.
Stressing the significance of their benchmarking mission, he stated, “I am glad to visit ECOWAS to understudy and learn from the experiences of ECOWAS.”
The Deputy Secretary General highlighted the shared commitment to fostering regional integration and cooperation among African nations.
