Nigeria: Army chief elevates troop welfare, inaugurates soldiers club

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lieutenant General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja inaugurated the revamped Warrant Officers/Sergeants’ Mess and Soldiers’ Club at Gibson Jallo Cantonment, Yola, the capital of Adamawa State.

During the ceremonial unveiling, COAS Lagbaja reiterated the pivotal role of these infrastructures in providing a dignified haven for troops to unwind within the cantonment.

Emphasizing the facilities’ design to curtail the need for soldiers to seek recreation outside the barracks, he highlighted the consequential enhancement of their personal security post-duty.

The COAS stressed that these upgraded facilities would not only offer an optimal space for social activities but also cater to personnel in transit.

Represented by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division/Commander Operation SAFE HAVEN, Major General AE Abubakar, COAS Lagbaja unveiled the broader initiative of the Nigerian Army to expand and remodel existing facilities across all barracks nationwide.

This initiative, he noted, aligns with his command philosophy to augment the well-being of Nigerian Army personnel and their families, providing modern amenities to boost operational efficiency.

Applauding the proactive stance of Commander 23 Brigade, Brigadier General PK Zawaya, in addressing troops’ welfare, the COAS extended appreciation for the brigade’s efforts in combating criminal activities within the state.

Brig Gen PK Zawaya, in his welcome remarks, underscored the unwavering support from Army Headquarters and 3 Division.

He expressed gratitude for COAS Lagbaja’s responsiveness to the troops’ needs, citing the high morale exhibited by personnel in fulfilling their constitutional duties as evidence of the care and support received.

The inauguration ceremony marked a noteworthy achievement in the Nigerian Army’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the welfare and well-being of its personnel.

The event included a comprehensive tour of the facilities and commemorative group photographs to capture the significance of this milestone in bolstering the troops’ living conditions and operational readiness.
