President Barrow inaugurates solar-powered water supply systems in Faraba Sutu, Kombo East

On Tuesday, President Barrow spearheaded the inauguration ceremony of the newly constructed Water Supply Systems in Faraba Sutu, Kombo East. The project, made possible through the generous support of the Japanese International Cooperation Assistance, was hailed as a significant stride towards sustainable development and environmental responsibility.

Expressing heartfelt gratitude, President Barrow commended the government and people of Japan for their pivotal role in funding the initiative. He underscored the transformative impact of the project, emphasizing its capacity to provide solar-powered drinking water and alleviate the strain on the national health budget.


The president further highlighted the alignment of the solar-powered energy solution with the National Climate Change Policy, positioning the initiative as a crucial step in curbing greenhouse gas emissions. President Barrow asserted that such projects play a pivotal role in the nation’s commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goal.

In an ambitious move towards widespread access to clean water, President Barrow revealed plans to implement 144 large and mini solar-powered piped-water supply systems across five administrative regions. The funding for this expansive endeavor is expected to be provided by the African Development Bank Group, marking a collaborative effort to address water scarcity and promote sustainability on a broader scale.

The unveiling of the Water Supply Systems in Faraba Sutu not only marks a triumph in the realm of infrastructural development but also symbolizes the nation’s commitment to leveraging renewable energy for the betterment of its citizens and the environment.
