Gambia: President Barrow leads 15th cabinet session, addresses key national agenda

His Excellency President Adama Barrow convened the 15th Cabinet meeting at the State House in Banjul, steering discussions on critical issues pivotal to The Gambia’s development trajectory.

The agenda boasted diverse topics, with a spotlight on pivotal presentations aimed at shaping national policy. Noteworthy amongst them was the joint Cabinet paper to be presented by the Minister for Communication and Digital Economy, Honourable Ousman Bah, in conjunction with the Minister for Finance and Economic Affairs. 


This presentation focused on the Amended Cabinet Paper on the Restructuring and Positioning of GAMTEL/GAMCEL, underscoring efforts to optimize operations within the telecom sector for enhanced efficiency and service delivery.

In a parallel session, Honourable Rohey John-Manjang, Minister for Environment, Climate Change, and Natural Resources, elucidated on the gazetting of Community Forest Areas across four key regions—North Bank, Lower River, Central River, and Upper River. This initiative signifies a crucial step towards sustainable environmental conservation and community empowerment.

Additionally, Dr. Mamadou Tangara, Minister for Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Gambians Abroad, delved into the development of a Formal Guidance Note/Manual of Procedures on Migration Management of Re-admission Requests. 

This strategic focus underscores The Gambia’s commitment to efficacious migration governance, ensuring robust management frameworks.

Not to be overlooked, the Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Welfare presented a compelling case for The Gambia’s forthcoming hosting of the Regional Workshop for Monitoring Women’s Participation at ECOWAS and the Sahel, slated for May 2024. This event underscores The Gambia’s commitment to gender equality and regional cooperation, aiming to bolster women’s engagement and representation within ECOWAS and the broader Sahel context.

President Barrow’s leadership at this pivotal Cabinet meeting signifies a resolute drive towards advancing national interests and fostering inclusive governance, underscoring The Gambia’s commitment to sustainable development and regional collaboration.
