Gambia: Kanifing Mayor Bensouda partners with Etoile De Lac to distribute D3.3m worth of prescription lenses
In a significant initiative to improve eye health in the community, the Mayor of Kanifing Municipality, Talib Ahmed Bensouda, announced the successful distribution of 340 prescription lenses to residents with visual impairments.
This effort, in partnership with Etoile De Lac, led by Mr. Weye Bah, involved a total expenditure of D3.3 million.
The lenses, which were provided free of charge, were procured from the USA at a unit cost of D10,000 each.
Approximately a month ago, a team of 15 doctors from Senegal conducted comprehensive eye tests using advanced equipment for the 340 recipients.
“This historic program, which will significantly benefit Gambians, is set to continue in the coming years with the goal of reaching all Gambians in need of prescription eyewear,” stated Mayor Bensouda. “Thank you to all involved!”
The initiative marks a major step forward in addressing visual impairment in the Kanifing Municipality and exemplifies the power of international cooperation and community-focused healthcare.
