IGP Touray attends United Nations Chiefs of Police Summit 2024 in New York

Inspector General of Police Seedy M. Touray is currently in New York to attend the United Nations Chiefs of Police Summit 2024 (UNCOPS 2024). The theme for this year’s summit is “Preventing Conflict and Violence and Sustaining Peace.”

During his official engagements, IGP Touray met with United Nations Police Adviser, Commissioner Faisal Shankar, at the UN headquarters. Commissioner Shankar expressed gratitude for IGP Touray’s attendance and praised the Gambian police officers serving in various UN peacekeeping missions and at UN headquarters for their competence and professionalism.


He reaffirmed his commitment to working with The Gambia to maintain global peace.

In response, IGP Touray thanked Commissioner Shankar for the warm reception and extended an invitation to visit The Gambia. He reassured the Commissioner of The Gambia’s dedication to the UN’s goal of maintaining a peaceful and secure world.

On June 24, 2024, IGP Touray also met with Mr. Ata Yenigun, Chief of the Selection and Recruitment Section of the UN Police Division. Mr. Yenigun commended the performance of Gambian peacekeepers and expressed his appreciation for their impressive service. IGP Touray assured Mr. Yenigun that the Gambia Police Force is committed to continuing its partnership with the UN to promote global peace.

These meetings highlight The Gambia’s active role in international peacekeeping efforts and its commitment to the principles of the United Nations.
