South Africa: Expelled MK Party Founder Khumalo barred from Parliament’s first sitting
Secretary of Parliament Xolile George has informed expelled MK Party founder Jabulani Khumalo that he may not attend Parliament’s first sitting on Friday due to his expulsion from the party that originally nominated him.
George confirmed receipt of correspondence from the MK Party to Khumalo, detailing the internal processes that led to his removal from the party’s Parliamentary list. Despite Khumalo’s prior notification of his intent to attend Friday’s ceremony, the MK Party had announced that its 58 members would boycott the session in protest of the election results.
In response, Parliament has cancelled all travel and accommodation arrangements for MK Party members, reinforcing Khumalo’s exclusion from the proceedings.
