Gambia: President Barrow reaffirms commitment to national unity

The Gambian Ministry of Information has issued a statement to clarify President Adama Barrow’s comments made during the opening ceremony of the National People’s Party (NPP) political bureau in Brikama on July 27, 2024.

The president’s remarks have sparked reactions, prompting the ministry to reassure citizens of his unwavering dedication to national unity and collective well-being.

President Barrow’s comments, which were perceived by some as divisive, were clarified by the Ministry as benign and focused on the greater good of the nation. The president expressed regret over any distress caused and reaffirmed his commitment to the welfare of all Gambians.

President Barrow is actively working to enhance economic conditions for all citizens, aiming to create a stable and prosperous environment where every Gambian can thrive. With the onset of the rainy season, the administration is increasing support for farmers to protect their crops and secure their livelihoods, recognizing agriculture as the backbone of the economy. Promoting peace, unity, and respect among all Gambians, regardless of political affiliations, is a cornerstone of the administration. The president believes in the strength derived from diversity and unity.

The government is addressing the challenges of irregular migration by creating opportunities within the country to discourage risky journeys abroad. Additionally, the administration is taking comprehensive measures to combat the devastating impact of new drugs like “Kush” on youth and communities. President Barrow remains dedicated to political pluralism, free political expression, and all tenets of democracy.

The Ministry of Information calls on all Gambians to focus on these pressing issues and work together for the prosperity and stability of the nation.

“Let us organize, unite, and conquer these challenges together,” the statement concludes.
