95-year-old Kenyan man marries 90-year-old sweetheart

A 95-year-old Kenyan man, Ibrahim Mbogo, married his long-time sweetheart, 90-year-old Tabitha Wangui, over the weekend, marking a remarkable milestone in their six-decade romance. The couple exchanged vows in a charming white wedding ceremony held at a church in Mukurweini, a town located about three hours northeast of Nairobi.
The couple first met and fell in love in 1960, and after years of companionship, they decided to formalize their relationship with a church wedding.
“We met and fell in love in 1960, do you hear?” Mbogo joyfully exclaimed outside the church. He added that while their Kikuyu customs recognized their union, they felt it was important to celebrate their love in a Christian context.
For their special day, Ibrahim looked dapper in a smart grey suit complemented by a silver tie, while Tabitha radiated elegance in a white outfit topped with a stylish white hat and a cream brocade jacket. The couple’s decision to have a white wedding was a nod to their shared Christian beliefs, despite already being legally married according to their cultural customs.
When asked about the secret to their long-lasting relationship, Wangui shared her wisdom: “Women, you must respect your husbands; if you do that, then you will live as we have. Don’t do any wrong, and when you do, just apologize and seek forgiveness.” Her words resonated with many, highlighting the values of respect and reconciliation in a successful marriage.
The wedding not only symbolizes a new chapter for the couple but also serves as an inspiring reminder of love’s timeless nature, proving that it can flourish even after decades of companionship. Friends and family gathered to celebrate this beautiful union, cherishing the love story that has unfolded over the last 60 years.
