Somalia: Deadly suicide bombing rocks Mogadishu

A suspected suicide bombing near a security checkpoint on the busy Mogadishu-Afgoye highway claimed the lives of five individuals and left ten others injured during the morning rush hour on Wednesday.

Nour Abdirahman, a security official, confirmed the attack to Anadolu Agency, stating that preliminary investigations by the police indicate it was a suicide blast.

The explosion, which shattered the morning calm, has prompted an extensive investigation to uncover the precise cause and circumstances surrounding the attack, as reported by TRT AFRIKA.

The Al Shabab terrorist group, notorious for its long-standing insurgency against Somalia’s central government, has claimed responsibility for the devastating attack.

The group has been engaged in a violent campaign for nearly two decades, aiming to destabilize the region and overthrow the government.
