Two schoolboys among 3 shot in Orpington, police launch investigation
Three teenagers were shot in southeast London on Wednesday night.
The UK Metropolitan Police confirmed that their personnel were dispatched to Otlinge Road in Orpington around 10 p.m. after receiving reports of gunfire.
Upon arriving at the scene, police officers, accompanied by the London Ambulance Service, provided immediate assistance to an 18-year-old man who had sustained gunshot wounds. He was subsequently transported to the hospital for further treatment.
During a thorough search of the area, two additional victims—both 14-year-old boys—were discovered with gunshot injuries and were also taken to the hospital for medical care.
Following initial inquiries, detectives established that the shooting incident had actually occurred at Yalding Grove, a nearby location. Fortunately, the injuries sustained by all three teenagers have been assessed as non-life changing and non-life threatening, offering some relief amidst the troubling circumstances.
As the investigation continues, a crime scene has been established, and police are actively conducting inquiries to gather more information. Detective Inspector Raymond Sekalongo, who heads the specialist crime Trident investigation team, expressed the department’s commitment to tackling violent crime in London, emphasizing that reducing shootings is of utmost importance.
“This incident will understandably cause concern within the community,” Sekalongo stated. “We want to reassure you that we are conducting fast-time inquiries to apprehend any suspects involved. I recognize the fear this may instill, which is why we will ensure a visible police presence in the area to address any worries residents may have.”
