Nigeria: Northern governors reaffirm commitment to tackle insecurity with collective approach
The chairman of the Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF), Inuwa Yahaya, reaffirmed the commitment of northern governors to addressing the ongoing security challenges in the region.
Mr. Yahaya made this statement in Gombe while receiving a detailed report from the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG), prepared by the Coalition’s Experts’ Committee on insecurity in Northern Nigeria.
He acknowledged the growing impact of insecurity on the lives and livelihoods of millions of Nigerians and emphasized his colleagues’ strong dedication to collaborating with key stakeholders to effectively combat the issue.
The governor revealed plans to take a collective approach to the fight against insecurity by convening a comprehensive all-stakeholder meeting aimed at finding a lasting solution to the menace in the region.
According to him, the gathering will focus on discussing and implementing strategies to restore lasting peace in the northern region.
“This time around, we want to take a collective approach to the insecurity issue. This report is timely. We will study it and work together towards its implementation. We are currently planning to convene an expanded meeting with all critical stakeholders in the region.
“This will be to further explore how we can come together to propose solutions that will genuinely address these problems completely,” Mr. Yahaya said.
The governor praised the CNG leadership for producing a comprehensive report that thoroughly analysed strategies to address the region’s security challenges.
Earlier, Bashir Ibrahim, the leader of the delegation and chairman of the Committee of Experts on the security component of the CNG, stated that the report contained practical strategies for tackling insecurity in the region.
Mr. Ibrahim emphasised that addressing insecurity in Northern Nigeria requires an “all-society” approach, where no one is a bystander.”
