UK to nominate Nigerian-born law Professor Dapo Akande for International Court of Justice in 2026

The United Kingdom has announced its intention to nominate Professor Dapo Akande, a Nigerian-born law expert, for election as a judge at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in 2026.

Akande, a distinguished professor of public international law at the University of Oxford, has earned global recognition for his expertise. His nomination, supported by the UK, Nigeria, Japan, Kenya, and Slovenia, highlights his growing influence in international legal circles.

Akande, who hails from Ibadan, Oyo State, expressed his gratitude for the nomination, calling it an honor to represent the UK in such a prestigious role.
