Former Zambian President Edgar Lungu, during a press conference on October 1, 2024, accused the judiciary of colluding with President Hakainde Hichilema to prevent him from running in the 2026 presidential elections.

Lungu expressed concern over legal petitions that had already been settled by the Constitutional Court but were being reopened, calling it an act of lawlessness.

He alleged that some judges were involved in these schemes and demanded their recusal to restore public confidence.

Lungu further accused the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) of secretly registering voters to undermine the 2026 elections, which he described as a move to decimate opposition candidates.

He warned that such actions threaten Zambia’s democratic institutions and urged Zambians to defend their democracy.
