Former Johannesburg mayor Kabelo Gwamanda, a member of Al Jama-ah, was arrested in connection with a funeral policy scam involving his company, Ithemba Lama Afrika.
The company is accused of defrauding Soweto residents who paid monthly premiums for funeral insurance.
“Residents paid monthly premiums for funeral insurance, but when they attempted to make claims, Gwamanda reportedly disappeared.”
