Vhutshilo Mountain School offers care, education for AIDS orphans in Limpopo
Vhutshilo Mountain School, located in Tshikombani village, Limpopo, has been providing care for AIDS orphans since 2002, offering a lifeline to children who have lost their parents to HIV/AIDS. Founded by Sue Ann Cook, a factory worker from Shayandima, the school currently accommodates 130 learners, ranging from toddlers to Grade 2 pupils.
Initially started in Cook’s caravan, the school has since expanded with support from the Church of Scotland and local donors, including Monica and Les McNeill, who recently visited the school for their 50th wedding anniversary.

The school offers psychosocial support, counselling, and peer groups to help the children cope with loss and stigma, while also providing education and medical care.
Despite its growth, the school faces funding challenges, limiting its ability to accommodate more children.
