ECOWAS boosts TVET in Togo to drive youth employability, economic growth

The ECOWAS Department of Human Development and Social Affairs has launched a three-day workshop in Lomé, Togo, to enhance the capacity of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) actors and strengthen the sector’s role in fostering economic growth and youth employability.

Held from November 13 to 15, 2024, the workshop is part of the ECOWAS TVET Strategy for Skills Improvement and Employability (ETSSIE). The initiative focuses on expanding TVET opportunities at secondary and tertiary levels while building stronger connections between education, training, and the labor market. Participants will also explore innovative approaches such as leveraging Labor Market Information Systems (LMIS), promoting internships, and advancing entrepreneurship and research.


During the opening ceremony, representatives of ECOWAS Commissioner Prof. Fatou Sow Sarr and Togo’s Minister of Technical Education, Vocational Training, and Apprenticeship, Mr. Isaac Tchiakpe, highlighted the workshop’s transformative potential. They emphasized its focus on creating a skilled workforce aligned with industry needs to combat unemployment and accelerate socio-economic development in Togo and across West Africa.

Sessions are designed to encourage knowledge sharing and collaboration, with discussions on aligning TVET programs with industry demands, fostering private-sector partnerships, and strengthening job creation efforts.

The workshop’s interactive format ensures participants leave with a comprehensive national plan for revitalizing the TVET sector.
