Minister of Interior resolves passport printer crisis at Nigerian consulates in US

In a significant move to ease passport processing challenges for Nigerians in the United States, the Minister of Interior, Hon. (Dr.) Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has successfully resolved the long-standing issue of faulty passport printers at the Nigerian consulates in New York and Atlanta.
Following his directive in January 2025, the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has now delivered and installed brand-new passport printing machines at both locations on February 18, 2025.
Africa Parrot gathered that this development comes in response to appeals from Nigerians in the diaspora who have faced delays and inconveniences due to inadequate printing infrastructure.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo emphasized the government’s commitment to improving service delivery for Nigerians at home and abroad.
“The Ministry is committed to innovation and improved service delivery. The installation of these new printers demonstrates our dedication to addressing the needs of Nigerians globally,” he stated.
This initiative is part of a broader reform agenda, including the Abuja Passport Personalisation Centre and the expansion of contactless solutions to streamline passport applications worldwide.
The resolution of the printer crisis aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, underscoring his administration’s commitment to enhancing the well-being of Nigerians everywhere.
With the new printers now operational, passport applicants in New York and Atlanta can expect a faster, more efficient, and hassle-free application process.
