Middle East: 20 Islamic Nations, China Raise Alarm Over Escalating Tensions

Twenty Islamic nations — including regional heavyweight Saudi Arabia — have jointly voiced alarm over the “dangerous escalation” that threatens to destabilize the region’s fragile security architecture.

The development comes amid growing tensions involving Israel, Iran, and other regional actors, prompting high-level meetings and global appeals for restraint.

In a significant move, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with opposition leader Yair Lapid for a security briefing, underscoring the gravity of the situation. Meanwhile, Israel’s Defense Minister issued a stern warning, stating that Iran’s controversial Fordo nuclear facility is “an issue that will definitely be addressed.”

The international community is also weighing in. Chinese President Xi Jinping, addressing the matter, warned that “escalating tensions in the Middle East are not in the interest of the international community.”

He emphasized China’s readiness to play a stabilizing role, adding, “We are ready to work with all parties to restore peace and stability in the Middle East.”

The rare joint statement from the 20 Islamic countries highlighted a shared concern over potential conflict spillovers, calling for immediate de-escalation and renewed diplomatic engagement.

The coordinated reaction reflects increasing global unease over a possible broader confrontation, especially with critical energy and trade routes at risk. Observers say the flurry of diplomatic activity signals a crucial moment that could either avert or ignite a larger regional conflict.
