Tanzanian president calls for investigation into killing of opposition figure

Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan has condemned the tragic death of Mohamed Ali Kibao, a senior member of the opposition party Chadema, and ordered a swift investigation into the case. Kibao, 69, was kidnapped, beaten, and doused with acid before his body was found in Dar es Salaam.

President Samia emphasized the importance of justice, stating that Tanzania is a democracy where every citizen has the right to live. She assured the public that investigation agencies have been tasked with uncovering detailed information about this and similar incidents.

Kibao’s death has sparked national concern, with opposition leaders and rights groups calling for more protection of political figures. Despite these challenges, the president remains committed to ensuring accountability and upholding democratic values.

Kibao, who joined Chadema in 2008 after retiring from military intelligence, will be buried in his hometown Tanga, and his death has drawn attention to the need for continued efforts to maintain peace and democracy in the country.
