Banjul Mayor Malick Lowe celebrates completion of three pivotal sessions related to VLR

Mayor of Banjul, Malick Lowe, announced today the successful completion of three pivotal sessions related to the Voluntary Local Review (VLR) of Banjul.

This initiative is poised to enhance the city’s operational efficiency and streamline processes, ultimately leading to better resource management and decision-making.


During his remarks, Mayor Lowe articulated the benefits of the VLR, stating, “This will increase efficiency and allow processes to be automated and simplified, and of course correlate with time, energy, and cost utilized to produce desired outcomes. It enables the council to collect and analyze large amounts of data in order to make better decisions moving forward.”

In a moment of celebration, he expressed his satisfaction with the collective progress made, announcing that “all partners have agreed that Banjul is now qualified for projects implementation at the local level.”

Lowe extended his gratitude to key contributors, specifically acknowledging Sait Matty Jaw, the local consultant, for his unwavering support in defending Banjul’s interests.

“Congratulations to Banjulians and many thanks to Sait Matty Jaw,” he stated. He also expressed appreciation for the international consultant, Dr. Juliet Sale, and the tireless efforts of Latirr Carr, calling their contributions invaluable.

“This alone is a big legacy to my leadership; Banjul is one step ahead,” he remarked, highlighting the long-term implications of the VLR for the city.

The mayor also took a moment to thank his team, including the Councillors, Deputy Mayor, Chief Executive Officer, and the staff of Banjul City Council for their steadfast support throughout the project.

He acknowledged Mr. Macumba Sanneh, their esteemed advisor, for his guidance, saying, “I thank you for taking all the trouble from Aziz, the Deputy Mayor, and my humble self.”

Concluding his address, Lowe praised his team members from the Mayor’s parlor—Binta, Musu, Fatou, Sanu (Chart), Isatou Njie (mummy), Marget, Isa, Saul, and Nading—recognizing their exceptional contributions: “You are all super amazing as this could not have happened without your support.”
