F&#8212;ed up. All the words.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a 2014 Elle magazine article, Finch claimed to be diagnosed with chondrosarcoma, a rare and usually fatal form of bone cancer. The story caught the attention of \u201cGrey\u2019s Anatomy\u201d executives, leading Finch to snag a plug gig with the Emmy Award-winning ratings juggernaut.<\/p>\n<p>She then falsely claimed in 2019 that her brother, Eric, died by suicide as she attempted to explain to fellow \u201cGrey\u2019s\u201d writers why she wasn\u2019t at work.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt just got bigger and bigger and bigger and got buried deeper and deeper inside me,\u201d Finch, 44, told The Ankler.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know it\u2019s absolutely wrong what I did,\u201d she continued. \u201cI lied and there\u2019s no excuse for it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Finch said there is some \u201ccontext\u201d for her actions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe best way I can explain it is when you experience a level of trauma a lot of people adopt a maladaptive coping mechanism,\u201d she explained. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome people drink to hide or forget things. Drug addicts try to alter their reality. Some people cut.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI lied,\u201d Finch said. \u201cThat was my coping and my way to feel safe and seen and heard.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A version of Finch\u2019s cancer tale showed up in a 2018 \u201cGrey\u2019s Anatomy\u201d episode titled, \u201cAnybody Have a Map?\u201d \u2014 one of 13 episodes she wrote. Overall, she produced 172 episodes.<\/p>\n<p>Her admission follows a March report by The Ankler that Disney, ABC\u2019s parent company, was investigating Finch\u2019s claims.
