{"id":1944,"date":"2022-12-09T17:07:39","date_gmt":"2022-12-09T17:07:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/africaparrot.com\/?p=1944"},"modified":"2022-12-09T17:07:54","modified_gmt":"2022-12-09T17:07:54","slug":"italy-japan-uk-to-merge-projects-for-new-fighter-jet-by-2035","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/africaparrot.com\/index.php\/2022\/12\/09\/italy-japan-uk-to-merge-projects-for-new-fighter-jet-by-2035\/","title":{"rendered":"Italy, Japan, UK to merge projects for new fighter jet by 2035"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Japan, Britain and Italy have said they would jointly develop a next-generation fighter jet in a project that held scope for future cooperation with allies including the United States.<br>The new jet, to be ready by 2035, is expected to merge the nations\u2019 current research into cutting-edge air combat technology, from stealth capacity to high-tech sensors.<br><br>In a joint statement, the three countries said the \u201cambitious endeavour\u201d would \u201caccelerate our advanced military capability and technological advantage\u201d at a time when \u201cthreats and aggression are increasing\u201d worldwide.<br><br>Their announcement was accompanied by a set of images showing an artist\u2019s impression of the sleek new jets flying past Mount Fuji and over London and Rome.<br><br>They did not give a cost estimate, but the three countries were already pouring billions of dollars into fighter jet development, efforts that would come together under the joint project, called the Global Combat Air Programme.<br><br>\u201cWe share (an) ambition for this aircraft to be the centrepiece of a wider combat air system that will function across multiple domains,\u201d the statement said.<br><br>That includes \u201cfuture interoperability with the United States, with the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation and with our partners\u201d in Europe, Asia and worldwide, it explained.<br><br>The US Department of Defence said it supported the project in a separate joint statement with Japan\u2019s defence ministry.<br><br>\u201cWe have begun important collaboration through a series of discussions on autonomous systems capabilities, which could complement Japan\u2019s next fighter program among other platforms,\u201d the US-Japan statement said.<br><br>Britain had already been working with Italy on a future fighter jet project called Tempest, launched to great fanfare in 2018.<br><br>The objective was to develop by 2035 a twin-engined stealth aircraft that could be operated manned or unmanned, could not be detected by radar, and would boast features such as laser-directed weapons and a virtual cockpit.<\/p><div class=\"afric-content\" id=\"afric-3813899317\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.schools.nyc.gov\/hello?utm_source=ecm-digital&#038;utm_medium=cpc&#038;utm_campaign=lac-dex-2026&#038;utm_content=french\" aria-label=\"French&#8212;300&#215;250\"><img src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/africaparrot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/French-300x250-1.gif?fit=300%2C250&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\"  class=\"no-lazyload\" width=\"300\" height=\"250\"   \/><\/a><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Japan, Britain and Italy have said they would jointly develop a next-generation fighter jet in a project that held scope for future cooperation with allies including the United States.The new jet, to be ready by 2035, is expected to merge the nations\u2019 current research into cutting-edge air combat technology, from stealth capacity to high-tech sensors.
