Over one hundred non-profit, religious and local leaders attended the community human rights breakfast organised by County Executive Ed Day and County Human Rights Commissioner Spencer Chiimbwe.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The first-ever Rockland County Community Human Rights Breakfast was held at the Fire Training Center in Pomona on Friday December 9, 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe truth is that so much more unites us than divides us,\u201d said County Executive Ed Day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhich is why this forum, here and now, is crucial in making sure hate never has a home in this County because discrimination will not and cannot be destroyed from the top-down. The issues we face can only be solved from the ground up, by a community united,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEvery community member has a stake in the human rights business of Rockland County,\u201d said Commissioner Spencer Chiimbwe. \u201cIt is a collective ownership.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New York State Division of Human Rights (NYSDHR) Commissioner Maria L. Imperial and NYSDHR Regional Director Linda Fenstermaker conducted presentations on the resources available in pursuing human rights cases in New York followed by a question and answer session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Division is charged with ensuring that human rights not only begin but they endure,\u201d said Commissioner Maria L. Imperial. \u201cOur mission is eliminating discrimination, remedying injustice, and promoting equal opportunity, access, and dignity.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIf you are being discriminated against because of these protected characteristics,\u201d asked NYS Division of Human Rights Regional Director Linda Fenstermaker, \u201cthere is a human rights law at your service.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI appreciate the New York State Division of Human Rights and Commissioner Maria L. Imperial being present with us today to provide us the tools necessary to win the war,\u201d said County Executive Day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cPeople of Rockland lets stand tall together and never stop fighting \u2013 on good days and bad – for the inalienable rights that we are born with\u2026 as we are all created equal.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIts voices like you, it\u2019s your presence, that is going to refine this process,\u201d added Commissioner Chiimbwe. \u201cIt is your voice, it is our voices, that is going to make this work so much easier.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
