{"id":2094,"date":"2022-12-17T20:42:38","date_gmt":"2022-12-17T20:42:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/africaparrot.com\/?p=2094"},"modified":"2022-12-17T20:42:38","modified_gmt":"2022-12-17T20:42:38","slug":"iran-arrests-prominent-actor-after-voicing-support-for-protest-movement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/africaparrot.com\/index.php\/2022\/12\/17\/iran-arrests-prominent-actor-after-voicing-support-for-protest-movement\/","title":{"rendered":"Iran arrests prominent actor after voicing support for protest movement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Iran arrested a prominent actor Saturday after she voiced support for the three month old protest movement triggered by the death of a woman in custody, Iranian media reported Saturday.<\/p><div class=\"afric-content\" id=\"afric-567378293\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.schools.nyc.gov\/hello?utm_source=ecm-digital&#038;utm_medium=cpc&#038;utm_campaign=lac-dex-2026&#038;utm_content=french\" aria-label=\"French&#8212;300&#215;250\"><img src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/africaparrot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/French-300x250-1.gif?fit=300%2C250&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\"  class=\"no-lazyload\" width=\"300\" height=\"250\"   \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>Taraneh Alidoosti, 38, was detained for \u201cpublishing false and distorted content and inciting chaos,\u201d the Tasnim news agency reported.<\/p>\n<p>She is best known for her role in the Oscar-winning 2016 film \u201cThe Salesman.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Alidoosti\u2019s most recent social media post was on December 8, the same day Mohsen Shekari, 23, became the first person executed by authorities over the protests.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYour silence means the support of the oppression and the oppressor,\u201d read text on an image shared to her Instagram account.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery international organization who is watching this bloodshed and not taking action, is a disgrace to humanity,\u201d Alidoosti wrote in the caption of her post.<\/p>\n<p>The actor has been a prominent presence in Iranian cinema since she was a teenager. Recently, she starred in the film \u201cLeila\u2019s Brothers,\u201d which screened at this year\u2019s Cannes Film Festival.<\/p>\n<p>The Islamic Republic has been rocked by protests triggered by the September 16 death of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old Iranian of Kurdish origin, after her arrest for an alleged breach of the country\u2019s dress code.<\/p>\n<p>On the day of Amini\u2019s death, Alidoosti posted a photo to Instagram with text saying: \u201cDamnation to this captivity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The caption to the post read: \u201cDon\u2019t forget what Iran\u2019s women go through\u201d and asked people to \u201csay her name, spread the word.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On November 9, she posted an image of herself without a headscarf, holding a paper with the words \u201cWoman, life, freedom,\u201d the main slogan of the protests.<br \/>\nHot on the heels of Shekari\u2019s execution, Iran publicly hanged protester Majidreza Rahnavard, 23, on December 12.<\/p>\n<p>Nine other people arrested in connection with the unrest have been sentenced to death.<\/p>\n<p>Thousands of people have been detained since the protests erupted and 400 have received jail sentences of up to 10 years for their involvement in the unrest, Iran\u2019s judiciary said Tuesday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Iran arrested a prominent actor Saturday after she voiced support for the three month old protest movement triggered by the death of a woman in custody, Iranian media reported Saturday.
