The Nigerian Senate has urgently appealed to the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to reconsider its decision to go on a nationwide strike. <\/p>

The Senate is deeply concerned about the potential severe impact of the strike on ordinary Nigerians, warning that “it could lead to extreme hardship in the nation.”<\/p>\n

While the Senate respects the NLC’s right to protest, it emphasizes the importance of considering the potential consequences on citizens’ daily lives and livelihoods. <\/p>\n

The ongoing effects of the global pandemic and economic recovery efforts have already strained the Nigerian economy, and a widespread labor strike could exacerbate the situation, leading to inflation, scarcity of goods and services, and significant inconvenience to the people.<\/p>\n

The Senate is committed to engaging in constructive dialogue with the NLC to address their grievances. By prioritizing negotiation and communication, they hope to find a compromise that protects workers’ rights and interests while ensuring the smooth functioning of the economy.<\/p>\n

In addition to the plea to the NLC, the Senate calls upon other stakeholders, including the federal government and private sector representatives, to participate in the dialogue. <\/p>\n

The NLC accuses the federal government of showing contempt for the Nigerian people and being at war with the workers and masses. <\/p>\n

In their demands, the NLC insists on the immediate reversal of all anti-poor policies, including the recent petrol price hike, increase in public school fees, and the release of withheld salaries of university lecturers and workers.<\/p>\n
