IGF 2022: Ethiopian Prime Minister calls upon forum to develop implementable proposals
Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has called upon the Internet Governance Forum to develop ‘implementable’ proposals towards digital transformation.
The 17th Annual Internet Governance Forum under the overarching theme Resilient Internet for a Shared Sustainable and Common Future, has commenced in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
It is scheduled to run from 28 November to 2 December 2022. l
The meeting programme is guided by five themes drawn from the Global Digital Compact in the UN Secretary-General’s Our Common Agenda report.
At the opening ceremony of the 17th internet administration conference, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has asked Ethiopia to prepare ideas that can be “comprehensible and practical” to promote the movement of ICT and digital transformation.
In addition, he highlighted Ethiopia’s ICT and digital transformation journey and called upon the Forum to develop “tangible, pragmatic and implementable proposals.”
The meeting held under five themes aligned with the UN’s envisioned Global Digital Compact: Connecting All People and Safeguarding Human Rights; Avoiding Internet Fragmentation; Governing Data and Protecting Privacy; Enabling Safety, Security and Accountability; and Addressing Advanced Technologies, including AI. Sessions are ascribed to each of the five themes.
