FIFA legend Didier Drogba has emphasized the power of football to foster unity and cultural respect.

In an event held at the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Geneva, Switzerland, Didier Drogba, the World Health Organization’s Goodwill Ambassador for Sport and Health, and renowned football player, highlighted the transformative potential of football.

Alongside HRH Princess Reem Bint Abdullah Bin Mosaad Al Saud of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Drogba spoke about the valuable lessons that football imparts, such as learning to live together and respecting different cultures.

Drogba, who represented both the Ivory Coast national team and Chelsea Football Club, emphasized that football goes beyond the mere pursuit of victory or defeat.

He shared his personal experience playing for Chelsea, where he had teammates from diverse backgrounds, including Russians, Ukrainians, Germans, Ivorians, and Ghanaians.

In that environment, they had to learn to coexist, respect each other’s cultures, and unite under a shared emblem. Drogba believes that these values, instilled through football, are essential for children’s development and should be accessible to all.

The discussion also touched upon the African Super League, scheduled to commence later this year. Drogba expressed optimism regarding the league’s potential to drive infrastructure development across the continent. He praised FIFA President Gianni Infantino for his efforts in reshaping perceptions of African football, highlighting the positive impact on the sport’s growth and recognition.
