Refela President Malick Lowe reflects on historic achievements, expresses gratitude as Banjul rings in New Year
Mayor Rohey Malick Lowe, Président of The Local Elected women in Africa (Refela) and the Mayor of Banjul, has taken a moment to reflect on the significant milestones achieved in the past year, expressing deep gratitude to the people of Banjul and acknowledging the pivotal role they played in her journey.
In her New Year’s message, Mayor Lowe began by thanking the Almighty for the special people in her life and the myriad successes that surpassed the inevitable challenges of the year.
She attributed her achievements to the unwavering support and prayers of the community, emphasizing the invaluable role they played during challenging times.
“New Year is a time to reflect on the things that made the year special and for me – it was all of you. As we approach the new year, I first want to thank The Almighty for giving me very special people in my life and countless successes which outweighs the ups and downs I went through during the course of the year,” she said.
The mayor extended her profound appreciation to the citizens of Banjul, struggling to find adequate words to express her feelings.
She expressed immense gratitude for their constant support, which led to her historic position as the first elected female mayor in The Gambia and the first mayor to be re-elected in the Capital City.
Her aspiration remains to contribute significantly to elevating Banjul into a modern city.
“To the people of Banjul in particularly, I lack words to express my feelings. I am very grateful to you for being there for me all the time. From the bottom of my heart, I wish to sincerely thank you for putting my name in the history books as the first elected female mayor in The Gambia and the first mayor to be re-elected in the Capital City. My only wish is to contribute in elevating Banjul to a modern city,” Lowe remarked.
Acknowledging the trust and confidence bestowed upon her by her party comrades, especially Team Rohey Malick Lowe, the Mayor recognized their contribution to her success.
She expressed gratitude to the councillors, management, and staff of the Banjul City Council, stating “merci beaucoup” for their support and valuable contributions to the institution.
Mayor Lowe didn’t forget to extend her thanks to her family members for their belief and support. She also expressed gratitude to mayors, REFELA members, local and international partners for their support, trust, and accolades.
She expressed, “To the councillors, management and staff of the Banjul City Council I say ´merci beaucoup’ for your support and your valuable contributions to uplift the institution.
“I am most grateful to my family members for believing in me and supporting me. To all mayors, REFELA members, local and international partners I say thank you very much for your support, trust and accolades given to me.”
In a special note, she thanked her husband, who stood by her every step of the way, ensuring that tasks were accomplished as expected and beyond.
As Banjul welcomes the New Year, Mayor Rohey Malick Lowe wishes for a year of peace, joy, happiness, and prosperity for everyone.
“Last but not the least, a million thanks to my husband who is with me every step of the way ensuring that I get things done as expected and even beyond.
“Happy New year to everyone. May 2024 be a year of peace, joy, happiness and prosperity,” she concluded.
