In Ivory Coast, the reigning champions Senegal showcased their dominance as they triumphed over Gambia with a convincing 3-0 win in their opening Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) clash.

The Teranga Lions wasted no time asserting their authority, with Pape Gueye capitalizing on Sadio Mane’s precise pass to net a fourth-minute opener from within the penalty area.

Despite the Scorpions’ relentless efforts, Senegal’s defense remained unyielding, thwarting every attempt to level the scores.

The match took a turn for the worse for Gambia just before halftime when midfielder Ebou Adams received a red card for an off-the-ball challenge, reducing the Scorpions to 10 men.

Senegal’s young prodigy, Lamine Camara, stole the spotlight in the second half, doubling Senegal’s lead with a clinical low finish. Undeterred by their numerical disadvantage, Gambia faced an uphill battle against the relentless Senegalese onslaught.

The rising star Camara showcased his skill with a sublime third goal, curling in a classy shot from distance. The Scorpions, now two goals down and a man short, continued to fight valiantly but struggled against the prowess of the Senegalese Lions.

Despite the odds stacked against them, Gambia kept the pressure on, persistently seeking goals amid relentless attacks from Senegal. Camara, living up to the hype, struck again to secure his second goal, intensifying the pressure on the Scorpions.

Senegal’s 3-0 triumph sets an early tone in the AFCON tournament, demonstrating their title defense ambitions. Gambia, on the other hand, faces challenges ahead as they regroup after the early setback.
