Kenya’s president Ruto pledges to strengthen ties with Somalia, South Sudan

President William Ruto has declared Kenya’s unwavering commitment to enhancing cooperation with Somalia and South Sudan.

The announcement came following a high-profile meeting held at State House, Nairobi, where President Ruto engaged with Somalia Foreign Minister Ali Mohamed Omar and South Sudan special envoys General Akol Koor Kuc and General Simon Makuac Yen.


During the meeting, President Ruto emphasized that the collaboration between the three nations would be grounded in matters of mutual interest, with a primary focus on addressing shared challenges faced by the region.

The president underscored the importance of such cooperation in securing the area, grappling with persistent conflicts, and combating extremism.

“Kenya is committed to enhancing cooperation with Somalia and South Sudan on matters of mutual interest,” Ruto stated emphatically, highlighting the shared goal of ensuring regional stability.

He articulated that a stable region would pave the way for expanded trade opportunities among the countries involved.

In his address, he outlined the broader vision, stating, “Our goal is to expand trade, secure the stability and prosperity of East Africa by working together to combat terrorism, resolve conflicts, and build a durable peace across our region.”

The collaborative efforts, as articulated by President Ruto, are geared towards not only addressing existing challenges but also proactively fostering an environment conducive to economic growth and shared prosperity.
