GPF, DCAF unite forces to empower female officers, launch comprehensive training program

In a groundbreaking move, the collaboration between the Gambian Police Force (GPF) and the Geneva Centre for Security Sector Governance (DCAF) has resulted in the initiation of a transformative four-day training program. Kicking off at the Metzy Residence Hotel on Monday, February 19, 2024, this program marks the beginning of the ‘Female Police Officer Promotion and Development Initiative.’

The purpose of this comprehensive training is to fortify the skills and capabilities of female members within the Gambia Police Force. Covering an array of vital attributes such as communication, motivation, self-management, emotional intelligence, creativity, decision-making, tolerance, adaptability, and people skills, the workshop is poised to be a pivotal force in shaping the professional growth of these officers.

Led by DCAF’s esteemed national consultant, the workshop delves into practical knowledge and skills that have been identified through a gender skills audit conducted by the GPF. This strategic initiative underscores the GPF’s unwavering commitment to ongoing police reform, emphasizing collaborative efforts with partners and stakeholders.

The collaboration comes at a crucial juncture, highlighting the concerted efforts to empower and uplift female officers within the Gambia Police Force.

The initiative not only demonstrates a commitment to gender inclusivity but also signifies a step forward in fostering a more skilled, empathetic, and adept police force.
