Gambia: Youth Volunteerism Project launches training skill development initiatives
In a significant step towards nurturing the potential of the youth, the eagerly anticipated Youth Volunteerism Project kicked off today with the successful completion of the Training of Trainers program.
Focused on Volunteer Skills Development and Management, the training targeted volunteer centers, centers of excellence, and youth groups, aiming to enhance their understanding of strategies for building high-performing teams, the pivotal role of women and youth in skill development, and the transformative impact of community service on shaping communities.
The project, spearheaded by Refela Gambia, encompasses a multifaceted approach. One crucial element involves deploying youths to acquire marketable skills, fostering a South-South Exchange for skill development, and establishing an online database, among other dynamic components.
In the coming weeks, the selected youth for the initial phase will embark on their training in various professions and skills within the country. Simultaneously, another group will have the unique opportunity to refine their abilities through exposure in Senegal, Nigeria, and Ghana. The launch of the second phase is imminent, set to commence immediately following the graduation of the initial 70 youths.
Expressing gratitude, Refela Gambia extends heartfelt thanks to the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation for the funding that made this initiative possible.
The unwavering support from UNDP The Gambia and the Banjul City Council (BCC) is also acknowledged, underscoring the collaborative efforts invested in shaping a brighter future for the nation’s youth. As the project gains momentum, it holds the promise of not only equipping the youth with valuable skills but also fostering a spirit of community service that will resonate for years to come.
