Kenya: President Ruto encourages citizens to embrace food security
President William Ruto, addressing a captivated audience during the Salvation Army Centenary service at Ulinzi Stadium in Lang’ata, Nairobi, passionately called on Kenyans to harness the anticipated good rains by actively engaging in food cultivation.
Simultaneously, he urged citizens to rally behind the affordable housing levy, a critical component of the government’s initiative to provide low-cost housing and stimulate job creation.
Expressing gratitude for the ample rainfall received last year after a collective prayer at Nyayo Stadium, President Ruto emphasized the importance of capitalizing on the projected favorable weather conditions to tackle perennial food shortages.
He assured the public that his administration has devised comprehensive plans to support farmers, citing the distribution of subsidized fertilizers as a proactive step to reduce production costs.
President Ruto acknowledged the challenges faced by Kenyans due to the high cost of living, particularly the soaring prices of essential commodities. He highlighted the government’s commitment to alleviating these concerns through initiatives such as the housing levy fund, which aims to address housing disparities and generate employment opportunities.
Drawing inspiration from biblical principles, President Ruto urged Kenyans to voluntarily contribute to the housing levy, framing it as a compassionate act for friends and relatives living in informal settlements. He emphasized the collective responsibility to ensure that all citizens, regardless of their economic status, have access to decent housing.
The President underscored the multifaceted approach of his Kenya Kwanza administration, outlining various job creation initiatives, including the establishment of digital hubs, special economic zones, and county aggregation and industrial parks.
Additionally, he envisioned the expansion of opportunities through the export of Kenya’s professional workforce and the construction of 400 fresh produce markets.
Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja echoed the sentiments of President Ruto, encouraging citizens to pray for the nation’s development and prosperity. Reflecting on the positive outcomes of last year’s national prayer for rain, Sakaja emphasized the collective power of such initiatives in steering the country towards growth and abundance.
