President Barrow honours GAF high command for outstanding service
In a prestigious ceremony held at the State House in Banjul, President Barrow bestowed honors upon three distinguished officers of The Gambia Armed Forces (GAF).
The event, attended by dignitaries and military personnel, marked a momentous occasion as Lieutenant General Mamat O.A Cham, Major General Ousman Gomez, and Brigadier General Sait Njie were decorated for their exceptional contributions and accomplishments to the nation.
Each officer received a distinct accolade, with Lieutenant General Cham being elevated to his new rank, Major General Gomez being promoted, and Brigadier General Njie likewise honored for his service.
Their commendable dedication and achievements were acknowledged by President Barrow, who commended their outstanding performance and urged them to continue championing innovative strategies to fortify and rejuvenate the GAF.
Addressing the decorated officers, President Barrow remarked, “It reflects the recognition of your dedication to leadership qualities and loyalty to the nation.”
He emphasized the crucial role of the armed forces in safeguarding The Gambia against both external threats and internal challenges, underscoring the nation’s reliance on their discipline and commitment.
In response, Chief of Defense Staff Lieutenant General Mamat O.A Cham expressed profound gratitude for the recognition and reaffirmed his commitment to enhancing the armed forces’ capabilities.
He outlined a vision centered on the principles of “capacity building, confidence, and cooperation,” signaling a strategic focus on bolstering the GAF’s effectiveness and readiness.
