President Barrow swears in new Gambian cabinet members

In a solemn ceremony, President Adama Barrow exercised his constitutional authority outlined in section 172 of the 1997 Constitution of the Republic of The Gambia, overseeing the swearing-in of the nation’s new Cabinet Ministers.

With the weight of expectation resting on their shoulders, the newly appointed officials were tasked with fulfilling the ambitious goals of the Yiriwa agenda.


Addressing the newly sworn-in ministers, President Barrow emphasized the importance of accountability and effective governance, urging them to uphold the principles of transparency and efficiency in their respective roles.

In a notable directive, he called upon the Ministry of Public Service to promptly devise performance evaluation mechanisms to ensure the optimal functioning of the Commission this year, signaling a commitment to driving tangible progress.

Among the distinguished individuals taking their oaths were Hon. Abdoulie Sanyang, assuming the responsibilities of Minister of Interior, Hon. Haddy Jatou Sey, entrusted with the portfolio of Minister of Basic Secondary Education, Hon. Nani Juwara, assuming the mantle of Minister of Petroleum and Energy, and Hon. Dr. Ismaila Ceesay, appointed as Minister of Information.

These individuals bring a wealth of experience and expertise to their new roles, poised to contribute to the advancement of the nation’s agenda.

Furthermore, the Cabinet reshuffle witnessed the departure of former Minister of Tourism and Culture, Hon. Abdoulie Jobe, and former Minister of Lands and Regional Governance, Hon. Hamat N.K Bah, among others.

Their successors, yet to be announced, will undoubtedly face the challenge of building upon the foundation laid by their predecessors and steering their respective ministries towards greater prosperity.

In addition to the Cabinet appointments, the swearing-in ceremony also saw the induction of two newly appointed members of the Public Service Commission, underlining the government’s commitment to ensuring the efficacy and integrity of key institutions.

As the nation embarks on this new chapter under the leadership of its reconstituted Cabinet, all eyes will be on the government’s ability to translate promises into tangible outcomes, fulfilling the aspirations of the Gambian people and advancing the agenda of progress and development.
