Mayor Lowe joins forces with first ladies to plant trees, promote environmental conservation

Mayor Malick Lowe of Banjul took to her Facebook page to announce her participation in a tree planting event organized by the Kairaba Conservation and Leadership Organization (Kaira CLO).

The event was a collaborative effort with her Excellencies Lady Chile Jawara and Fatoumatta Bah Barrow, the esteemed First Ladies of The Gambia. The tree planting initiative aimed to honor and recognize the late Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara, the country’s Founding Father, while also raising awareness about pressing environmental issues such as climate change and pollution.


Mayor Lowe expressed her delight and honor in joining the First Ladies and the mothers of the nation in this significant endeavor. She emphasized the need for collective action from all sectors of society to address the diverse challenges facing the environment.

In this context, she highlighted the crucial role played by the Banjul City Council and REFELA (the network of the local elected women of The Gambia) in contributing to the cause of environmental conservation.

Mayor Lowe expressed her gratitude to the executive members of Kaira CLO for their foresight and partnership in organizing the tree planting event. Through this collaboration, they aimed to create awareness and drive positive change towards a more sustainable and environmentally-friendly future for The Gambia.

The tree planting event led by Mayor Lowe, along with the participation of the First Ladies and other stakeholders, not only symbolized the commemoration of the late Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara but also highlighted the importance of environmental conservation in the country.

By actively engaging in such initiatives, the leaders and citizens of Banjul are demonstrating their commitment to address the pressing environmental challenges and work towards building a greener and more sustainable future.
