President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi of Egypt has reaffirmed his country’s steadfast support for the security and stability of Comoros after the recent assassination attempt on Comoros President Azali Assoumani. In a phone call on Wednesday, President Sisi expressed his relief that Assoumani was safe and recovering well after sustaining minor injuries during the attack.

Assoumani, who was stabbed during a funeral near Moroni last week, expressed gratitude for Egypt’s unwavering backing, calling it a reflection of the strong bonds between the two nations. The two leaders emphasized their commitment to enhancing bilateral relations, particularly through Egypt’s ongoing role in advancing development initiatives and capacity building in Comoros.

The suspect in the attack, a 24-year-old police officer, was arrested but was later found dead in his jail cell. Authorities are still investigating the motive behind the incident.
