Museveni expresses willingness to mediate Sudan’s conflict
Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has announced his readiness to mediate the ongoing conflict in Sudan, provided that both warring factions agree to his involvement. During a meeting at State House Entebbe with United Nations Envoy for Sudan, Ramtane Lamamra, Museveni reiterated his commitment to help restore peace in Sudan.
The civil war, which erupted in April 2023 between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), has caused widespread devastation. Museveni emphasized the need to address identity politics, which he identified as a major cause of the conflict. He urged the factions to implement a ceasefire and transition power to the Sudanese people.
