The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has announced that the Super Eagles will boycott the second leg of their Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Libya after being held hostage at a Libyan airport.

According to a statement released on Monday, the players and officials have been left without food, water, or internet access at Al Abraq Airport for over 12 hours after their flight, originally scheduled for Benghazi, was diverted to the smaller airport just before landing.

The NFF explained that the chartered ValueJet aircraft was suddenly redirected to Al Abraq International Airport, typically used only for hajj operations, putting the team in a dangerous situation.

Furthermore, the Libyan Football Federation failed to provide a reception team or transportation, leaving the Super Eagles stranded at the airport, which is three hours away from the venue of the match in Benghazi.

The players were forced to sleep on the airport floor and have now resolved to boycott the match.

The NFF is making arrangements to fly the team back to Nigeria.
