ECOWAS citizens in The Gambia collaborate with ECOWAS mission for anti-drug sensitization
In a proactive effort to educate ECOWAS citizens in The Gambia on the dangers of drug trafficking and abuse, the ECOWAS Permanent Mission collaborated with local ECOWAS citizens to host a one-day sensitization program.
Held at the West Africa Insurance Institute in Kololi, Kanifing Municipality, the event aimed to raise awareness about the functions and mandate of The Gambia’s Drug Law Enforcement Agency (DLEAG).
Mr. Dawda Sanyang from DLEAG’s Drug Demand Reduction, Media, and Advocacy Unit, delivered a comprehensive presentation on the agency’s mandate.

His talk also covered drug classifications, methods of use, and the health risks associated with substance abuse. “We urge ECOWAS citizens residing in The Gambia to join the fight against illicit drug trafficking and abuse,” said Sanyang, emphasizing the collective responsibility in tackling this issue.
The event also featured a presentation from Miss Yassin A. Ndimballan, who highlighted the health and legal consequences of drug misuse. Participants engaged actively, raising questions about common misconceptions surrounding drugs and their impact.
The event received praise from attendees, with the Chairman of ECOWAS citizens in The Gambia expressing gratitude for the opportunity to promote dialogue on this critical issue.
The ECOWAS mission, along with representatives from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the African Union, reinforced the importance of such collaborative efforts to ensure a safer, healthier community for all.
