President Barrow discusses urgent matters of Ummah with OIC officials

His Excellency President Adama Barrow received a delegation from the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Headquarters today at the State House in Banjul.

The meeting focused on significant issues concerning the Muslim Ummah and the OIC’s role in addressing them. President Barrow highlighted urgent matters such as the situations in Palestine and Sudan, calling for immediate intervention from the Islamic Ummah.

During the discussion, H.E. Amb Yousef M.S. Aldobeay, the Assistant Secretary General of the OIC Secretariat, briefed the President on plans for a three-year roadmap for development.

President Barrow assured the Secretariat that the proposal for the roadmap would be considered, reiterating his desire to engage OIC members in turning strong commitments into actionable solutions for the challenges faced by the Ummah. “It is time to move from ceremonial statements to actual actions to solve these problems,” he emphasized. He added that collaborating would strengthen relationships and foster mutual support to achieve the desired outcomes.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, the OIC Assistant Secretary General expressed gratitude to President Barrow for the warm reception and thanked the government and people of The Gambia for successfully hosting the 15th OIC Summit in May. He praised the success of the summit, noting that it reflects The Gambia’s pivotal role in advancing OIC objectives and promoting collaborative actions.

H.E. Aldobeay acknowledged President Barrow’s exceptional leadership in promoting unity, cooperation, and development among OIC member states.

The delegation, led by Foreign Minister Honorable Mamadou Tangara and accompanied by the Gambian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, H.E. Omar G. Sillah, included Mr. Yankuba Dibba, CEO of the OIC Banjul Office, and other technical staff.
