Centre for Disability Africa holds event to mark International day of Persons with disabilities 2024

Centre for Disability and Inclusion Africa in conjunction with Joint National Associations of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD), Ogun State chapter will hold an event to mark International day of Persons with Disabilities 2024 on Thursday 5th December, 2024.

According to the organisers the event will be held at Justice Fati Lami recreation centre for the Disabled, Oke –Ilewo Abeokuta Ogun state (formerly known as Women Development centre).


The event is expected to attract active participation of senior officials from Ogun state Ministry of Women Affairs and social Development, senior level leaders and active members in the disability and inclusion ecosystem within the state as well as many concerned actors.

According to a statement by Yinka Olaito, the executive director, “We are excited about this partnership where crucial conversation around Ogun state Disability issues will form the focus of items on the table.

Ogun state has enacted its state Disability law since 2017 but much has not been done.

Like other states, the barriers continued to be daunted and we do hope this conversation will set in motion the parameter for full implementation or share possible areas of laws”.

On his part, Ogun State Chairman of JONAPWD, Dr Michael Ebonhor says “It is a good thing this conversation is holding now. There could be no other time, most appropriate.

Our chapter needs to hold this conversation for now.

The event which forms parts of the activities marking International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2024 will help in stepping up conversation around efficient implementation of the state’s disability bills with the aim of tasking stakeholders on the way forward”.

International Day of Persons with Disabilities which is marked on December 3 every year aims to Promote the rights and well-being of people with disabilities, raise awareness of the situation of people with disabilities in all aspects of life, Recognize and learn from the experiences of those with disabilities, encourage organizations to show support and take action to create more diverse and inclusive communities.
