Ghana election: Ministers, incumbents lose parliamentary seats
Ghana’s opposition leader, John Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has taken an early lead in the presidential race, according to initial reports. Mahama has secured 51% of votes in 25 of the nation’s 276 constituencies. His closest contender, Mahamudu Bawumia of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), has garnered 47.2%, as reported by Joy TV.
The results reflect only a small portion of the overall count, and officials have emphasized that they may not represent the final outcome. This election is unfolding amidst economic challenges, including inflation and a national debt crisis, adding significant weight to the leadership transition.
The Electoral Commission continues to oversee the counting process and urges the public to remain patient as updates are provided.
