Tinubu to co-chair Nigeria-South Africa Bi-National Commission with Ramaphosa

President Bola Tinubu will co-chair the 11th session of the Nigeria-South Africa Bi-National Commission (BNC) alongside President Cyril Ramaphosa in Cape Town, South Africa, on December 3, 2024.

The high-level talks will cover bilateral, regional, and international issues of mutual interest. The session will be preceded by a ministerial meeting on December 2 at the South African Parliament Building, according to a statement from Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.

“The 11th session of the BNC will focus on deliberations across eight working groups, addressing key areas such as political consultations, defence and security, trade and investments, banking and finance, and the social sector,” Onanuga said.

The meeting comes as the two nations mark 25 years of cooperation under the BNC, which was established in 1999 to strengthen ties in diplomacy, trade, security, and development. The leaders will review progress since the 10th session held in Abuja in 2021 and sign several agreements to further deepen collaboration.

This year’s BNC is particularly significant, symbolising enduring friendship and shared commitment to advancing mutual goals.

President Tinubu, who will be accompanied by governors, ministers, and senior officials, is expected to return to Nigeria after the conclusion of the talks.
