“You have not disappointed us” — Lekki Imam praises Nigerian President Tinubu during Jumat prayers

President Bola Tinubu received high praise during Jumat prayers at the Lekki Central Mosque in Lagos on Friday, as the Chief Imam, Ridhwan Jamiu, commended his leadership and urged continued accountability and justice in governance.

This marked the president’s second public appearance at a mosque within a week, following his attendance at the Alausa Central Mosque last Friday.

Addressing the congregation, Imam Jamiu delivered a heartfelt sermon emphasizing gratitude, patience, and unwavering faith in Allah, even during challenging times.

Turning his attention to the President, the Imam lauded Tinubu’s performance in office, assuring him of the unwavering support and prayers of the Muslim Ummah.

“We are proud of you,” Imam Jamiu said. “I remember that we encouraged people to vote for you during the campaigns. We thank God that you have not disappointed us.

“We know you are capable. We know you have the sagacity. We know you are competent. We believe and pray that you are not going to disappoint us. May Allah continue to be with you. Allah has entrusted Nigeria to you and will ask you for this trust.”

The Imam further reminded Tinubu of the weight of responsibility and accountability in leadership.

“Responsibility is to the people, and accountability is to Allah when you return to Him. Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said, ‘The most beloved of all people to Allah is the righteous and just leader.’ We have seen righteousness in you and fairness and justice in you. Please keep it up and sustain it,” he urged.

Imam Jamiu also highlighted the significance of Tinubu’s name, Ahmed, meaning “one who does what is praiseworthy,” and expressed hope that this would continue to reflect in his governance.

President Tinubu, who has been in Lagos since December 18, had earlier cancelled public engagements, including a boat regatta, to honor victims of recent stampedes in Oyo, Anambra, and the FCT. Despite a subdued festive schedule, the President hosted Nigeria’s first Presidential Media Chat on December 23 and has continued to receive private visitors during the holiday season.

The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed the details in a press release issued on Friday.
