Clean Banjul initiative gains momentum as volunteers join Mayor Malick-Lowe’s call to action

The Mayor of Banjul, Rohey Malick-Lowe, has renewed her call for collective responsibility in keeping the Gambian capital clean and green, emphasizing that maintaining a beautiful city is a shared duty among residents, businesses and visitors.
“Our beautiful city flourishes when we come together and keep it clean and green for all. This is not just the responsibility of Banjul City Council but a shared duty for everyone,” Mayor Malick-Lowe stated in a passionate message.
Highlighting the ongoing efforts of the Bloomberg Team in Banjul, the Mayor shared an inspiring moment from a recent clean-up drive in the Commercial area. The event was graced by Ousainu Gambia, a dedicated environmental advocate known for his love for The Gambia and commitment to keeping the environment clean and green.
“Ousainu, who fell in love with this initiative, is a gentleman par excellence. We are incredibly grateful for his efforts and call on more volunteers to join us. We will not relent until we have the Banjul we want,” she said.
The mayor reaffirmed the Banjul City Council’s commitment to providing free waste collection services and managing dumpsites. However, she lamented the challenges posed by a lack of cooperation from some residents and businesses, which hampers the council’s efforts.
“It is very difficult to make these efforts effective because of the lack of cooperation. We are appealing to everyone—residents, businesses, and visitors—to take ownership and help keep Banjul clean,” Mayor Malick-Lowe urged.
The #CleanBanjul campaign continues to gain traction, with volunteers and community members rallying to support the initiative, bringing hope for a cleaner, greener, and more vibrant city.
